# Set up MCP

> Provision seller access, connect an AI application, and verify the connection.

## Before you connect

Your seller organization must have MCP enabled. Your active account role must include **MCP access** and the ordinary permissions for the tools you want to use. Ask your administrator or Plastics contact if **MCP** is missing from the merchant portal or access is denied.

The AI application must support remote MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth. Your AI workspace may require an administrator to allow custom connections. Interactive elements depend on the client; a tool connection does not by itself verify interactive UI support.

## Get your connection URL

1. Open **MCP → Configuration** in the merchant portal.
2. Refresh status and confirm that seller account access is provisioned.
3. Copy the verified **MCP server URL**, including its `/mcp` path.

If status is unavailable, follow [troubleshooting](https://docs.plastics.com/integrations/mcp/troubleshooting.md). Do not substitute a production URL or create an API key to work around an unavailable trial connection.

## Connect ChatGPT

1. Open **Plugins** in ChatGPT.
2. Select **+ → Add custom MCP server**.
3. Enter a name and the verified MCP server URL from the portal.
4. Choose **OAuth**, review the connection information, and continue.
5. Complete WorkOS sign-in using your provisioned seller account, review the discovered tools, and create the plugin.
6. Start a new conversation, type **@**, and select the connection.

Ask: **“Check my Plastics connection and tell me which tools my account can use.”**

These steps follow the [official OpenAI connection guide](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt). Workspace policy may restrict who can add or use a connection.

## Connect Claude or another client

Use the client's custom remote MCP connection setup, enter the same verified URL, and complete OAuth sign-in with your seller account. Follow your client's current documentation for menu names and supported interactive elements. For Claude Code, the portal's Claude tab supplies a command using the verified URL.

## Confirm the result

Check connection status inside the AI application, then try a tool marked **Live** in the portal. Use a simple catalog request first. A successful sign-in is not proof that every tool, document, or interactive component is available.

After a service update, refresh the connection's tool metadata in your AI application and start a new conversation. ChatGPT provides **Refresh** on the custom connection in Plugins.
