# Website Search

> Bring semantic product search to your existing website without an iframe.

Website Search connects your existing search bar to Plastics product search. Visitors stay on your website. You choose the products, public descriptions and destination links they can see.

## How it works

1. **Your website** sends a search to your own backend.
2. **Your backend** adds a connection credential and calls the restricted Plastics search gateway.
3. **The gateway** searches the products approved for that connection and returns public result fields for your website to render.

Keep the credential on your server. Visitors never need access to your private Plastics APIs, and no iframe is required. You can keep your current search design or use the supplied JavaScript UI.

Semantic matching uses the visitor's original query to find related products. GenAI query rewriting is currently disabled on the trial gateway and defaults to off. Its separate rewrite function is retained for a future explicitly enabled trial. Product names and grades keep their original-query matching. These features do not grant access to additional products or private documents, and this integration does not generate conversational answers.

## What can appear in results?

A product must be both eligible under your organization's active catalog policy and explicitly published to this connection. Publishing selects its public title, description and HTTPS product-page link. The gateway applies those restrictions before searching, counting and paginating results. Search intelligence cannot override them.

## Get started

* [Configure a connection](https://docs.plastics.com/integrations/website-search/configuration.md).
* [Connect your backend and search UI](https://docs.plastics.com/integrations/website-search/api-and-ui.md).
* [Browse the implementation and runnable example on GitHub](https://github.com/plastik-ai/codebase-render-trial/tree/main/integrations/website-search). Repository access may be required; ask your Plastics contact for access or the integration files.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Website Search is available on the Render trial. A successful trial test does
> not install it on your company website. Your developer still needs to connect
> and verify your staging website before switching live traffic.
